After a series of delays, Jakarta administration says it will officially open TransJakarta Busway Corridor VIII (Lebakbulus- Harmoni) in February next year.
However, the new corridor would not serve the full 26-kilometer route, D.A. Rini, head of TransJakarta's public service body (BLU Transjakarta), said on Monday.
"We haven't decided which stops will be opened. We are still analyzing which areas are most in demand," Rini said, as quoted by Kompas.com.
The corridor had been scheduled to open early this year, but the opening date was pushed back by the administration for a number of reasons, including disagreements over bus fares.
The development of the corridor, which passes through South Jakarta's opulent Pondok Indah, also sparked a public outcry.
Many Pondok Indah residents strongly opposed the corridor, saying it would damage the image of the area and destroy their palm-lined median strip.
BLU Transjakarta is also planning to open two other corridors mid next year -- Corridor IX Pinangranti-Pluit and Corridor X Cililitan-Tanjung Priok. (dre)
