TEMPO Interactive, Bandung:The West Java administration is giving itself a January 1, 2009 deadline to solve flood problems in Bandung. West Java's head of Provincial Planning Board Deny Juanda Puradimaja said that West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan has asked that the solution to the flooding problem be executed in a systemic way so as to make it permanent.
Three kinds of approach will be discussed by experts. First will be the technical approach, which is the controversial clearing of Curug Jompong. Secondly, the ecological approach by planting trees along the water catchment areas and its impact on flood management. Lastly, the socio-cultural and socio-engineering approach, which seeks solutions for residents of flood-prone areas.
