At least eight national airlines have prepared 61,492 extra seats in anticipation of the holiday season, a Transportation Ministry official said Monday.
Tri S. Sunoko, the ministry's Air Transportation Director, said the holiday season spurred the airlines to add 192 domestic and 92 international flights to their itineraries.
"Airlines have been adding more planes which will help them increase their capacity during the holiday," he said, as quoted by Kompas.com.
According to ministry data, Lion Air has provided the most extra seats (27,684 seats), followed by Mandala Air (12,480) and Wings Air (10,992).
Other airlines that have upped capacity on their routes includes Garuda Indonesia (3,196), Sriwijaya Air (2,520), Batavia Air (2,240), Merpati Nusantara Airlines (1,880) and Riau Airlines (500). (dre)
