TANGERANG (Jakarta Post): Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has yet to receive confirmation regarding an engine that apparently fell from a plane onto the south runaway of the airport on Tuesday morning.
No airline had contacted the airport to report such a loss as of Wednesday.
Airport administrator Herry Bakti told The Jakarta Post fear of blame might lie behind the failure to report the loss.
"Actually, they should not be afraid to come forward as these kinds of incidents are not always the fault of the companies," he said.
Herry said every airline should honestly report the condition of its airplanes.
The airport operator said the next step in the investigation would be to call a meeting with 13 registered airlines.
Airport executive general manager Heryanto said a watch tower officer found the three-meter fairing engine on the side of the runaway near the international departure terminal Tuesday morning.
Separately, Airport police chief Sr. Comr. Guntur Setyanto said he had received no report of an engine being lost or found.
A similar incident happened two weeks ago when parts of a Batavia Air craft landed in Gempol Sari village in Tangerang regency. --JP
