State oil and gas company Pertamina will increase the prices of fuels for industrial and commercial use by between 15 and 22 percent today (Dec. 1) in line with soaring crude oil prices on the world market.
Pertamina said Friday that the prices of unsubsidized diesel for transportation and industrial use would be increased by 15.9 percent to Rp 8,300 (about 89 U.S. cents) and Rp 7,039 per liter, respectively, while the price of unsubsidized premium-grade gasoline would be increased to Rp 7,450 per liter.
Meanwhile, the price of kerosene will go up by 21.7 percent to Rp 8,347, while that of fuel oil will rise by 15.9 percent to Rp 7,700 per liter.
Pertamina said the price increases were in line with the rise in the Mid Oil Platts Singapore (MOPS) index, which is used as the reference for determining the prices of non-subsidized oil-based fuels.
The increases were larger than last month's increases of between four and six percent due to a 1.87 percent depreciation in the value of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar.
Subsidized Premium gasoline and transportation diesel remains pegged at Rp 4,500 and Rp 4,300 per liter, respectively, while the price of heavily subsidized kerosene for use by households and small enterprises also stays the same at Rp 2,000 per liter.
