JAKARTA (Jakarta Post): To deal with the city's annual traffic chaos during the rainy and holiday seasons this year, traffic police will monitor congestion from the sky starting Thursday.
Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Raziman Tarigan said teams of police officers would travel around the city in helicopters and would be lowered down on ropes to the ground to manage any traffic jams they come across.
"This new method seems to be the best way to manage traffic jams at this stage, especially during the rainy season when streets are inundated with water," he told reporters Tuesday.
He also said officers traveling in helicopters would be trained to help evacuate flood victims.
