KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: A package of telecommunication devices will be provided to 2,091 disadvantaged villages in 18 regencies in East Nusa Tenggara.
The assistance from the State Ministry of Communication and Information is intended to ease access to information and break down the isolation of the villages.
The head of information at the East Nusa Tenggara provincial administration, Ubaldus Gogi, said Tuesday that most of the villages are located in remote areas.
"The government has decided in the 2007 budget to provide them with telecommunication abilities to help the villagers ease their isolation and follow through with development," Ubaldus said.
He said the government is also planning to build television relay stations in four locations on the border with East Timor.
"Currently, there are still complaints from people living on the border that they find it hard to access information by television," he said. -- JP
