JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post): The Jakarta administration is planning to evict hundreds of traders operating along the banks of the Jelakeng and Opak Rivers in West Jakarta.
"We've already given them the deadline of October to leave those areas," Abidin Mustofa, an official at the West Jakarta Public Order Agency, told Tempointeraktif.
He said the presence of buildings along the riverbanks posed a threat to the environment. The businesses along the riverbanks also worsened traffic congestion in the areas, he said.
Abidin said that the administration had prepared alternative sites to accommodate the traders, such as 147 kiosks in Slipi market, 144 kiosks in Glodok market and 288 kiosks in Pasar Pagi market.
