JAKARTA (Antara): Transportation Minister Hatta Radjasa said Wednesday that series of train accidents across the country were result of sabotage against the public transportation facility as part of efforts to harm its services.
"I have long suspected ... and there is an indication that an accident in Serdang Bedagai regency, North Sumatara was a result of sabotage," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying in Bekasi, West Java, Wednesday.
A train accident in Serdang Bedagai, some 45 kilometers south of North Sumatara provincial capital of Medan on Tuesday was the latest train accident. Dozens of people suffered from minor and serious wounds.
Previously, there are a number of accidents like in Banyumas, Central Java, Cirebon West Java, Blitar in East Java, and in Jakarta. Those accidents did not only cause delays of train departures, but also causing dead like one in Banyumas, which killed at least five.
Indications of sabotage against the train service across the country include planting explosive on train tracks, cutting rail tracks, and placing speed breakers on tracks.
Hatta said he had ordered Director General for Train Affairs Soemino Eko Saputro to cooperate with the National Polite Headquarters and the National Intelligent Body (BIN) to investigate incident in North Sumatra.
"I believe it is not an accident, but it was caused by an extraordinary crime because metal plate and concrete were placed on train track," according to the minister.
Previously, Serdang Bedagai police chief Adj. Corm. C.P. Nasution said that there is an indication of sabotage in the train accident.
