SURABAYA, East Java (Antara): Second largest Indonesian city of Surabaya is expected to develop busway next year, taking an example from the success of a similar project in Jakarta.
"As the second largest city in the country, Surabaya deserves to have busway corridors," Directorate General of Land Transportation Iskandar Abubakar was quoted by Antara newsagency as saying Friday.
He said the development of busway will reduce independency of Surabaya daily travelers on private vehicles, which sparks traffic congestions.
Jakarta currently has developed seven out of 15 busway corridors targeted to complete by 2010 as part of the effort to ease traffic congestions in the capital and to reduce people's dependency to private vehicles -- motorcycles and cars.
