The Jakarta administration's Disaster Management and Refugee Coordinating Unit said they were having difficulties monitoring floods in the city as many of their CCTV cameras are broken, kompas.com reported Wednesday.
Dimas, a CCTV operator at the unit, said that 69 of a total 160 cameras across the city have been broken.
He said that some of the cameras were damaged by natural causes such as lightning and falling trees, but most were unable to send pictures because of device failure.
Dimas said monitoring problems have increased as repairs are costly and time consuming.
Separately, Jakarta Deputy Governo Prijanto said the administration is making its best effort to repair the cameras.
The city saw widespread traffic jams on Tuesday following heavy rain that inundated 16 locations in up to 50 centimeters of water. (dre)
