JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesian vehicle sales are expected to fall by 30-35 percent in 2009 from a record high in 2008, due to slower economic growth and high lending rates, the head of PT Toyota Astra Motor told Reuters on Thursday. Domestic sales in 2008 averaged around 50,000 a month, but they had now fallen to 32-34,000, Toyota Astra President Director Johnny Darmawan said by telephone.
Toyota Astra is the distributor of Toyota (7203.T) cars in Indonesia and the market leader in the Southeast Asia's biggest economy where domestic vehicle sales stood at 607,805 units last year.
The firm is jointly owned by Japan's Toyota Motor and Indonesia's largest automotive distributor, PT Astra International Tbk (ASII.JK).
