JAKARTA (Antara): The commander of the Pekanbaru Air Base, Col. Gandara Olivenca, will be dismissed for allowing foreign nationals without security clearance to travel in a military helicopter that crashed at a Riau palm oil plantation on Monday.
Four military officers and seven civilians including two foreigner nationals were aboard the helicopter. One civilian passenger from Singapore, Robert Candran, was killed, while the others were injured in the crash.
"He (Gandara) is responsible for the movement of any plane and chopper at the Pekanbaru Air Base, including the presence of local civilian passengers and foreign nationals in the crashed helicopter," Air Force Chief of Staff Vice Marshal Subandrio said Friday.
The preliminary results of an investigation by the Air Force Aircraft Accident Investigation Team show two foreign national passengers of the helicopter did not have security clearance from Indonesian Military Headquarters, he said.
"The commander of the air base must know that the two foreign nationals must first have obtained security clearance (from TNI Headquarters) before they could travel on the military vehicle. It is clear that he violated procedures and therefore he must besternly punished," he said.
