State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II overseeing Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta revealed that per August, the company found 23,116 cases related to illegal businesses at Soekarno Hatta.
The cases for instance were ticket touts (2,537 cases), illegal taxis (8,452 cases), scavengers (332 cases), hawkers (9,282 cases) and shoeshiners (1,191 cases).
The company also noted that several illegal businesses attracted more people to join.
For example, the number of ticket touts per August this year jumped by 52 percent compared from 1,663 cases the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of scavengers also rose by 45 percent from 228 cases in 2009.
“We will try to curb this illegal businesses and ensure the airport becomes more comfortable for passengers,” Angkasa Pura President director Tri Sunoko said in Jakarta on Thursday.
