Pertamina executive Karen Agustiawan has been appointed president director of the state-owned oil and gas company, the government announced Thursday.
Karen has been working as Pertamina’s upstream director. She is joined by Omar S. Anwar as vice president director, PT Pertamina, replacing Ari Soemarno and Iin Arifin Takhyan.
"Karen will be an excellent Pertamina director," said Sofyan Djalil, the state minister for state-owned enterprises. "They will make a good team. She knows the technical part while Omar knows the business part."
The company's management had been criticized over fuel shortages in recent weeks. A massive fire last month at Pertamina's biggest fuel depot added to the cascade of negative comments, including some from lawmakers.
Karen has previously worked at Halliburton Indonesia. She is Pertamina's first female head.
