TEMPO Interactive, Surakarta: A flight route between Solo and Dubai will be opened this year as an airline from the United Arab Emirates has shown interest in the route.
“We have had a serious discussion with the airline,” said Surakarta’s Mayor, Joko Widodo, yesterday (10/2).
The plan is awaiting the permission of the Transportation Ministry and the Directorate General of Air Transportation.
Joko explained that once permission was issued, the flight could start operating this year.
However, Joko refused to mention the name of the airline, adding, “Let’s wait for permission first.”
He went on to say that this flight route had much potential for customers.
Many exporters travel to Dubai as well as Indonesian migrant workers.
At the moment, the only direct flights from Indonesia to the United Arab Emirates are from Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta.
A traffic flight officer at Adisumarmo Airport in Solo, Mario, said that he did not know about the plan for this new route.
“However, our airport is ready,” he said.
