Bandarlampung (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of Idul Fitri holiday travelers were left stranded at Tanjungkarang train station on Thursday after a cargo train derailed at Kotabumi station in North Lampung earlier at 2 in the morning.
The derailment prevented other passenger trains from arriving at Tanjungkarang station to carry waiting travelers to their respective destinations.
Consequently, hundreds of people at Tanjungkarang station had to wait for hours while some of them fixed their eyes on the other end of the railway track with great expectation of an incoming train.
People who had bought Sriwijaya Limex Executive train tickets were seen restless when the station master announced over the loudspeaker that the train would arrive late because of the derailment.
"I am really disappointed because I bought a ticket but it was announced the train cannot be dispatched," Johan, one of the passengers who had taken a Rajabasa economic train ticket for Palembang in South Sumatra.
But Johan and around 990 other passengers finally were relieved when they heard the announcement that the Rajabasa economic train would depart at 11 a.m. local time because the derailed train at Kotabumi station had been removed. (
