Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The arrivals of foreign tourists in Indonesia in January 2007 fell 18.74 percent compared with those in the previous month of December, a statistics official said here on Thursday.
"But if compared with the corresponding period in 2006, the arrivals of foreign tourists last January upped 6.91 percent," Deputy Head for Economic Statistics of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Pietojo, said.
He said that the number of foreign tourist arrivals through 15 immigration gates last January were recorded at 317.6 thousands while that who arrived in the same period in 2006 stood at 297 thousands.
According to Pietojo, the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels in 10 tourist destination cities in December was about 49.30 percent, or increased by 3.81 percent compared to that in the previous month of November.
He said that the length of stay of foreign guests at star-rated hotels in December 2006 was 2.12 days, which was a decline by 0.02 percent compared with that in November of the same year.
The BPS offcial also pointed out that the number of domestic air passengers in January 2007 was recorded at 2.15 million, which fell 18.67 percent compared with that in December 2006.
"The number of air passangers for overseas destinations also dropped 21.53 percent to 489 thousand," he said.
