Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Air Marshal Djoko Suyanto on Thursday morning made an impromptu aerial survey of quake-affected locations in Bengkulu and West Sumatra aboard a military aircraft.
The aerial survey lasted from 8 am to 10 am on Thursday, TNI Headquarters spokesman Rear Marshal Sagom Tamboen said here Thursday.
The TNI commander returned to the Halim Perdanakusumah airbase in Jakarta at 11 a.m. following the aerial inspection.
Sagom said the TNI chief had made the trip to assess the damage done by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Wednesday (Sept 12) at 6:10 p.m. The quake was followed by several aftershocks.
"Through the survey , we can decide what kinds of assistance the TNI can give to post-disaster mitigation efforts," he said.
The TNI commander was expected to directly report his findings at a limited cabinet meeting led by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday afternoon.
