JAKARTA (Antara): Some Indonesian airlines have considered either forging an alliance or merging their airlines to confront with an open sky policy in Southeast Asia region next year.
"Domestic airlines should be strong and they have no choice but forming an alliance or merging to face open air policy. I heard some have considered doing that," Air Transportation Director General Budhi M. Suyitno was quoted by Antara as saying on Wednesday.
Adam Air was seeking possibilities to either form an alliance or merge with Indonesia Air Transport, while Lion Air and Wings Air were also moving toward the same direction, he said.
Adam Air director Aditya Suherman and Lion Air spokesman Hasyim Arsal Alhabsy confirmed the plan.
