TANGERANG: Police at Soekarno-Hatta airport ticketed some 299 taxi drivers for various violations, including the absence of drivers' licenses or operational permits.
"We even seized 28 cabs from drivers because they could show neither a driver's license or vehicle documents," airport police chief Comr. Sutimin told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
The police will conduct such raids regularly, to improve public safety, security and comfort, he said.
The raids, which began Feb. 28, were conducted in response to complaints that many taxi drivers were refusing to use their argometer when taking passengers from the airport to their destinations, Sutimin said.
The raids confirmed many drivers also did not have operational permits from taxi companies, he said.
Officially licensed taxi drivers often lease their taxis to other drivers, Sutimin said.
