Five OC members of CoP UNFCCC killed in road accident

Cirebon, West Java (ANTARA News) - Five members of the organizing committee of the Conference of Parties (CoP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) were on Monday at 4.30 a.m. killed in a car accident in Santing village, Losarang sub district, Indramayu district, West Java.

The accident which also seriously injured another organizing committee member occurred likely due to the drowsiness of a Toyota Kijang car`s driver, Kustiono, after driving a long distance from Nusa Dua, Bali, where the UNFCCC was held.

Due to the driver`s drowsiness, the car swerved to the left and hit a sand-carrying truck which was parked on the shoulder of the road.

The five dead victims were identified as Kustiono (Bogor, W Java), Darmaji (Bogor), Tatang Santono (Depok, W Java), Alif Suraji (Jakarta) and Suryadi (Bekasi, Tambun) while the injured was Rasto (Karawang, W Java).

All the victims were evacuated to Bhayangkara hospital in Losarang sub district.

Meanwhile, the Indramayu district police`s traffic unit chief, Adjunct Commissioner Jaman Asri Harahap, said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.

However, he said, the accident occurred likely due to the driver`s drowsiness.
