Followinga series of power outages last week, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airportin Tangerang, Banten, suffered yet another blackout on Friday morning. Thisleft passengers scrambling to get information about their flights, with some ofthem unable to make it in time for takeoff.

Chandra,a passenger originally booked on a Lion Air flight to Yogyakarta at 6:15 a.m.,said that he missed three flights because of long queues and lack ofinformation.

“Imissed my original flight because the check-in queue was so long,” Chandra toldthe Jakarta Globe.

“Finally,I could check in for 8 a.m., but the officer told me to go to Gate A5 to payfor the airport tax. There was another long queue and I missed my flight again.

“Afterthat, I was sent to Counter 24 to check in for the 9:40 a.m flight, but untilnow, there has been no further information about the flight and I missed it.Again.”

Chandracomplained about poor information dissemination at the airport. “Nobody knowsabout rescheduled flight times. Nobody knows where I should go to fly toYogyakarta. And I'm hungry,” Chandra said, adding that he had been on his feetsince 5:15 a.m. because the waiting area was packed with people waiting.

He addedthat the long queue was because flight check-ins were done manually, as thecomputers were offline.

Sudaryanto, the corporate secretary of airport management company Angkasa Pura II, said, however, that the blackout did not hamper flight activities.

“We areusing generator set so it has not affected any flights,” Sudaryanto told onlinenews portal Kompas.com.
